Nelson Shen is staff scientist in the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Broadly, Nelson’s research is at the intersection of design thinking and digital mental health.  He leads the designcommons, a start-up applied research unit to support digital innovation and service design at CAMH.  Much of Nelson's research focuses on engaging people with lived experience to understand how we can innovate to support their care journeys.  Another focal point is to engage patients, families, and the community to identify ways to foster public trust and digital citizenship in innovative uses of health data and artificial intelligence.

Nelson is also an Assistant Professor (Status-only) and a Faculty Health Informatics Research Co-lead for the Health Systems Research (HSR) Program at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (University of Toronto).  He is also serves as a HSR lead for the International Collaborative for Translational Digital Health—a tri-lateral partnership between Universities of Manchester, University of Melbourne, and University of Toronto.
